Who stands for change – A different type of conference
Organized by the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen, FUTURZWEI. Stiftung Zukunftsfähigkeit, Forum für Verantwortung in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the German Council for Sustainable Development.
It is time to end the post-democratic lethargy – the problems, which look different but are in fact interconnected, are too urgent: Environmental degradation, desolidarization, a globalized growth economy, refugee dramas, climate change, surveillance technologies and new violent conflicts are all facets of a development of modern societies that is not sustainable. At the same time, we are seeing a new and strong civic commitment to democracy, ecological management and the common good in many countries. This force is not yet sufficiently effective in the face of established politics; it still appears too isolated and local. That is why we are holding a “conference of a different kind”, which will be attended by people from a wide range of social segments and age groups – people who have already done or continue to do something in their party, in their profession, at their university or school, in their local area to bring about the necessary change.
