Konsum

Two key strategies for more sustainable consumption are explained – efficiency and “moderation” (sufficiency) – and illustrated using the example of two areas of life that are highly relevant to sustainable consumption: “sustainable investments” and “building and housing”. The options for action presented do not focus on doing without, but on “eco-intelligence”, i.e. finding a way to satisfy needs, maintain quality of life and conserve resources.

What does consumption have to do with climate and resource protection? What are the trends in global development and what strategies can maintain or create prosperity without overburdening the Earth system? To this end, the political framework and developments at national and international level are presented and key instruments as well as measurement and evaluation systems for more sustainable consumption are described.

The materials in the module, such as the household check, the assessment of one’s own ecological footprint, the “We are what we do” campaign, sustainable product labels, research on the topic of “Where does our breakfast come from?”, etc., present options for action for everyday consumer life.
