Tax the Rich

Why the rich have to pay if we want to save the world

We can still save our planet – but it won’t be cheap. Where will the money come from for all the new heating systems, wind turbines and batteries?

For Jørgen Randers and Till Kellerhoff, the answer is obvious: those who can afford it will have to pay. Because as the climate crisis escalates, two things are steadily increasing for the richest people in the world: their wealth and the amount of CO2 emissions they cause. At the same time, the burden for the rest of the population is becoming increasingly difficult to bear – the social crisis is also threatening to derail. Increased taxation of large fortunes and inheritances not only counteracts the enormous inequality in our society, but also enables us to carry out the most important project of this age: saving our livelihoods.

“Democracy must arrive in the 21st century. To do so, it must shake off the fantasies of domination of the past centuries. A first step towards this is the taxation of wealth – this book is one of many important voices that make this necessity clear.” Marlene Engelhorn
