Challenges in Times of Multiple Crises
For two decades, wealthy countries have failed to make sufficient investments in policies to mitigate the impacts of climate change and adapt to it. Due to the overlapping crises since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic—which have entailed enormous financial burdens—policymakers worldwide continue to allocate completely inadequate funding to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.
What solutions are there to this dilemma?
In this interdisciplinary in-person seminar, which includes lectures and workshops, we will discuss:
- Violent Conflicts Caused by Climate Change
- Earth’s Tipping Points
- Water and Climate Change
- Biodiversity
- Artificial Intelligence
The colloquium is aimed at doctoral and master’s students in all disciplines; it is also open to bachelor’s studentswho have already begun working on their thesis.

The venue is the modern conference and meeting center ofthe European Academy Otzenhausenin northern Saarland. It is located in the “heart of Europe,” in the border triangle between Luxembourg, France, and Germany, on the edge of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park.
Costs:The organizers will cover conference expenses, single-occupancy room accommodations, and meals (including non-alcoholic beverages with meals). A travel expense subsidy may be granted after the event upon full participation.
