Challenges in Times of Multiple Crises
For two decades, wealthy countries have failed to make sufficient investments in policies to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts. Due to the overlapping crises that have arisen since the COVID-19 pandemic—which have imposed enormous financial burdens—policymakers worldwide continue to allocate completely inadequate funding to the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.
What solutions are there to this dilemma?
In this interdisciplinary in-person seminar featuring lectures and workshops, we will discuss:
- Earth’s Tipping Points
- Climate Change and Water
- Biodiversity in the Context of Global Change
- Artificial Intelligence
- New Geopolitical World Order
The colloquium is open tod octoral and master’s studentsfrom all disciplines; it is also open to bachelor’s studentswho have already begun working on their thesis.

The venue is the modern conference and meeting center of the European Academy Otzenhausen in northern Saarland. It is located in the “heart of Europe,” in the border triangle between Luxembourg, France, and Germany, on the edge of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park.
Costs: The organizers will cover conference expenses, single-occupancy room accommodations, and meals (including non-alcoholic beverages with meals). A travel expense subsidy may be granted after the event for those who attend the entire program.
