3 Degrees more – Between AI and constructive reporting
Seminar for media professionals
Over the past 20 years, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the media have described the consequences of global warming of +1.5° C in detail as painful for millions of people, but have not identified a serious threat to humanity as a whole.
However, this is no longer the case, as we are not just heading towards an average global warming of +3°C by the end of the century, which will lead to a warming of up to 6°C on land. As the consequences are not linear, a “three-degree world” will have devastating consequences for humanity.
The world’s population is not aware of these dramatic consequences for all of us. It is the duty of governments and the media to educate people about this and show how a “three-degree scenario” can still be averted.
In addition, the current geopolitical realignment of the world is making it more difficult to accept and implement globally applicable climate measures.
Experts from science and practice initially provided communications professionals with in-depth background knowledge, which was then discussed in small groups. In addition to the informal opportunities, workshops offered space for an intensive exchange of experiences on how complex interrelationships can be presented in an understandable way.
