Let’s use democracy for our major challenges!

For more than 10 years, as the sponsor of the “Courage for Sustainability” initiative, we have been dealing with the most diverse facets of the question “What kind of world do we want to live in in the future?” and are increasingly focusing on the aspects of climate change. Our approach to this pressing issue is scientific and interdisciplinary and focuses on mobilizing civil society. One realization weighs heavily: significant future-oriented progress towards sustainability can only be achieved if civil societies make substantial use of the potential of democracy.

From November 3-5, 2017, we discussed what this means and requires for broad civil society engagement at the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen.
