Covid-19 has made it clear: the book of infectious diseases is far from being closed. This brochure describes the two most important threats: Pandemics caused by emerging and re-emerging epidemics and the spread of pathogens with antibiotic resistance. Only significant changes, in particular early warning systems and better medical prevention and treatment options, can bring about the necessary turnaround. These changes will cost large sums of money in the short term, but will more than pay off in the long term. We have the knowledge and the financial means to change direction – now is the time to act.
