Ende der Artenvielfalt?

Endangering and destroying biodiversity

There is a magnificent diversity of life forms on Earth. The abundance of life has evolved over hundreds of millions of years. We only know a limited part of this biodiversity. We do not even know approximately how many species of animals, plants and microbes there are. But we can be sure that the natural diversity of life is not just a gimmick and whim of nature, but is of great importance for the continuity of life on earth.

Nevertheless, biodiversity is constantly being destroyed when tropical forests are cut down, wetlands are drained, cultivated land is intensified and oceans are exploited and poisoned. This volume is therefore about biodiversity on Earth and its continued existence – about the future of life.
