Wasser/Ernährung/Bevölkerung

From knowledge to action
Didactic modules

Everyone has the right to clean water, sufficient food and reproduction – according to the globally valid human rights defined in the international community. Water, food and reproduction are closely linked to each other in a conditional structure, and the module links the three complex subsystems of “water”, “food” and “population”. The subject areas are first covered individually. This is followed by a description of the current situation (status quo), then selected interfaces are worked out in more detail and possible solutions are presented.

The final chapter examines the question “How can the areas of water, food and population be shaped in terms of sustainability?”. This is done on the basis of an analysis of the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, which have been agreed by 189 countries.

The materials in the module deal with topics such as conflicts between agricultural production for food and biofuels, the development of megacities, virtual water and eating and consumption habits in different countries, among others.
